Message from Erin

Erin Hutto

By Erin Hutto, Programs Director

Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” At every level in an organization, continuing education will help develop skills, provide inspiration, add confidence and support empowerment within the organization. We each have an immense passion for what we do on a day-to-day basis and a drive to make Idaho and the world a better place. Passion and drive coupled with continuing education is a very powerful combination. What better way to increase efficiency than to continually hone skills and knowledge?

I recently read a great article, “Motivate Workers with Training Opportunities” in Nonprofit World, and it stresses using training as a hiring, retention and productivity tool. Let those you are hiring and work with know you support their growth and development through training opportunities. Encouragement to be an everyday learner happens at all levels of an organization by sharing articles, training opportunities, introducing new topics to research and discuss. If your organization doesn’t have continuing education and training opportunities, contact the Center for low-cost ideas on how to start up a program. The extra interest in job skill development will help employees grow and positively impact the organization. I am continually looking for classes and training opportunities to help me gain more knowledge in all aspects of my personal and professional life and encourage you to do the same! Read more.
