Safety First!

Encouragement from Janice Fulkerson, Executive Director

Last week I was spending time with my nieces and nephews on a longboard. They were laughing at me (not with me) because I wore my bike helmet. Knowledge through humor is great and I was very happy to provide laughter for the kids while giving them something to think about, too. Safety is important in our personal life and at work, too.

A safe place to work is assumed, yet there are many things to consider in keeping a safe work environment. They include the physical environment and team member actions and behavior, too. The Annual Nonprofit Conference delivers educational workshops on many topics, and this year we are featuring a workshop that addresses the big pink elephant in the workplace: employee substance abuse. Kail Seibert will cover new laws and practical tools to identify it and manage it. This is a great opportunity to ask the questions you can’t find an answer to anywhere else. Are you as curious as I am about the new marijuana laws in the surrounding states and what that means in Idaho?

Safety for our team members and for those we serve is critical to a healthy organization and a healthy bottom line. I encourage you to wear a personal floatation device on a boat, wear a helmet when you are on wheels, and register today for the annual conference to gain knowledge through humor.
